Over 100 Democratic leaders and Pro-Israel activists gathered in Cheviot Hills, as Democrats for Israel Los Angeles honored Assembly Speaker Karen Bass and Los Angeles County Democratic Party Chair Eric Bauman at their annual garden party.

Assembly Speaker Bass, who represents the Miracle Mile, Pico-Robertson and Westwood portions of Los Angeles was honored for her work with the Jewish community in Los Angeles and promotion of Jewish values.

Los Angeles County Democratic Party Chair Eric Bauman, who resides in North Hollywood is Jewish and has worked to promote the defense of Israel and Jewish values in the Los Angeles Democratic Party and statewide.

"Coming off a great Democratic Convention in Denver, alot of the excitment at this garden party was about the presidential race and the Obama-Biden team's strong record of committment to the security of Israel," said DFI-LA President Andrew Lachman (who was just elected to the Democratic National Committee). "There was also concern over the 147 House Republicans who voted against the Israel aid package this year and tried to cut aid to Israel another one percent."

Activists signed up to volunteer to do outreach to battleground states with large Jewish populations such as Nevada, New Mexico, Virginia and Ohio and literature from the club's website comparing positions on Israel and other issues was made available.

Past DFI-LA honorees have included Lt. Gov. John Garamendi, County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky and Congressmembers Adam Schiff and Linda Sanchez.
